Rescue Team Locates Woman Under Rock in North Minneapolis

Howdy friends. Thank you for the concerned e-mails and comments. I apologize for being amiss. You see, I've been neck-deep in research. I'm still in it, at least up to...oh, my arm-pits? So you know where to find me the rest of the weekend. But anyhoo...here's a news round-up from the last few weeks:

My sweet friend Stacy who lives down the street just gave birth to a lovely baby girl named Frances! Yay! I can't wait to go play with her as soon as I crawl out from under this rock.

Lon & Jaime also just gave birth to a beautiful baby girl named Alice. Congrats!

Shad spent a week at the San Diego Comic-Con (that's "Nerd Prom" for the rest of us), and spent some time in LA w/dear SummSumm and others.

Geoff and I went to Wicked. It was awesome.

My new sewing machine arrived a few weeks ago! But it's still in the box. Grumblegrumblegrumble...

Congrats to pals who took the Bar Exam this week! DWJ & Luke, you've been holding a special place in my thoughts.

I went home to visit my family last weekend in western MN. My aunt and uncle were visiting from Texas, and we did a lot of drinking and fish-frying and relaxing by the lake. That is the life.

I hosted a party on the patio a few weekends ago with my lady-friends. The dress code was "wear that thing in your closet that you have no other excuse to wear." This was obviously a thinly veiled excuse for me to wear my kimono and drink cocktails all afternoon. jL took the cake with her "I-just-killed-my-husband-with-this-butcher-knife-and-now-I'm-going-to-cut-up-limes-with-it-care-for-a-mojito?" ensemble.

We had a blast, and at one point I realized we--the bigggest wierdos in the whole neighborhood--were sitting around talking about how strange the neighbors are. Oh my God, in 50 years, we are going to be the craziest crazy old ladies ever. I swear we already are. I hope we all end up in the same retirement community.

Oh yes, and there was this:

So, I'm done with work in one week, then I am going on vacation with my family for four days; we are renting a houseboat on Rainy Lake near International Falls. After that, I am hopping on a plane to bring my little sister Sarey to college in Tempe, Arizona.

(That's Sarey, for those of you who don't know.)

After Arizona, I plan to plant my butt on the patio for a week and cram in as much relaxing as possible before I start school August 28.

Ack! This sunlight is burning my eyes. Must crawl back under rock now...

Sorry for my silence. I've been super busy. Hopefully I will be back on board soon.

Fancy-Pants Wine Peeps Duped By French Wine-Maker

I'm a fan of the Louis Jadot Beaujolais--$7.99 at Costco. It's a tasty cheap red. One of my favorites (but not better than the Concha Y Toro, holding strong for about 7 years now as the best dang cheap red you can bag). Turns out the more upscale beaujolais maker, Georges DuBoeuf, was busted for mixing cheap crap with the fancy crap. Bummer for the fancy-pants wine peeps. (In fairness--DuBoeuf's defense is that the batch was made in error and was never sold to anyone.)

I picked up a tasty cheap red this weekend, by the way. It was either $6 or $7 at World Market I can't remember--Banrock Station Shiraz (Australian). I also picked up a really crappy cheap red this weekend--Borsao (Spanish). Too acidic. Totally grody.

Sporty Pals Appear on Jumbo-Tron

jo Lynn and I went to the Twins game today. It was super fun. This is not something we would normally do, but I got my hands on a pair of the firm's season tickets, and Shad was busy working in the new studio, so off we went. As jL would say, we were "total sportos." jL really captured the sporto spirit with her snazzy retro Twins outfit.

The tickets were awesome--we were right on the first base line. We ate dome dogs, drank lots of beer, and even appeared on the jumbo tron! I wonder if anyone saw us on your TVs at home? Come on, I know you were all watching. Fess up.

Rather than fight the crowds, we stuck around in our seats after the game and finished up our beers. Hundreds of kids filed onto the field after the game and ran around the bases (you can see them in the background in the picture). Does that happen after every game? I had no idea.

I'm in the middle of a blessed four-day weekend. I've been working in the yard a lot. I'll post pictures soon.
