Fancy-Pants Wine Peeps Duped By French Wine-Maker
I'm a fan of the Louis Jadot Beaujolais--$7.99 at Costco. It's a tasty cheap red. One of my favorites (but not better than the Concha Y Toro, holding strong for about 7 years now as the best dang cheap red you can bag). Turns out the more upscale beaujolais maker, Georges DuBoeuf, was busted for mixing cheap crap with the fancy crap. Bummer for the fancy-pants wine peeps. (In fairness--DuBoeuf's defense is that the batch was made in error and was never sold to anyone.)
I picked up a tasty cheap red this weekend, by the way. It was either $6 or $7 at World Market I can't remember--Banrock Station Shiraz (Australian). I also picked up a really crappy cheap red this weekend--Borsao (Spanish). Too acidic. Totally grody.

glad to see that you're bringing back old school words like "grody." maybe you can work in "rad" and "dope" at some point.
You should call me and tell me how much you hate my kitchen. I tried to send you pictures, but the email address I have keeps bouncing the pics back. Even your email hates my kitchen. Deep sigh....
I sent you some pictures! I like the word "grody" (although I think it should be "groady") because when I work on my rad house, I get groady/grody.
I love World Market wine...so cheap..so tasty...
Can you really go wrong with a cheap Aussie Shiraz? As for Borsao, I have to agree, but if it's at the end of a tasting session where it has been preceeded by much better wine, it's much more tolerable. Anyoo, time to pour myself another one of those Bushmills & Ginger Ales that have been making me cheerful over the past week.
