Vacationing Student Has Difficult Time Getting off Butt

I am no longer referring to the attic as my craft studio. Now it's my clubhouse. I love my clubhouse. Today (if I can get off my butt) I'm going to put lights up and try to cozy up the lounge area. I need a big furry rug. I'm sitting here in the quasi-lounge, drinking coffee and listening to the squirrels scamper across the roof. Er, I hope they're outside. I've been feeling strangely paralyzed and unambitious the last few days. My mom and sisters had a change of plans and didn't come down after all. I am having lots of "me" time. I've been sleeping in, reading, putzing around. What a wonderful break. I wish I never had to go back to school.

My stomach is making some irritated grumblings today. Possibly the strange assortment of things I put in it yesterday. My sister Kate came over last night for a light dinner. I made a butternut squash soup, pasta salad with pepperoni and artichoke, and a spinach salad, and we drank egg nog and wine coolers. I think this is the first time I've had egg nog. It is so delicious. Wow. I thought it would taste like egg yolks. As if the egg nog/wine cooler combo was not bad enough, when Kate left I went to Anemoni sushi bar with my friend David, and we shared some sushi and edamame and I had a couple of sake cosmopolitans (very tasty) and beer. We shut the place down. Anemoni is fabulous, by the way--if you haven't been there yet, I highly recommend it. It's the newest part of Azia's conglomeration of swank down on Nicollet.

Oh! The dishwashing fairy is back! I left quite a little mess behind after dinner with Kate, and when I returned home last night, everything was cleaned up. Yay!

I haven't worked at the restaurant where I am supposedly employed for about three months. Thought I should stop being supported by my dear husband and get off my butt and try to pick up some shifts during my break. I went down there last night and noticed that my name wasn't on the schedule this week. Last week's schedule was still posted, and my name was still on that one, though of course no shifts were scheduled for me. Hm. Am I still employed? So the racket involves me putting a note up offering to pick up any shifts. Then I find out who is working tonight, and today I grab a big cup of coffee and start calling them all to see if anyone wants the night off. No one wants the night off! What is that all about? When I worked there regularly, I was pretty quick to give up a shift. (Probably, I'm more lazy than generous). Anyway, the whole economy there is pretty interesting, the supply and demand of shifts. You have to figure it out. If people are stingy about picking up shifts (i.e. high on the supply-side), then you have to be a bit more predatory--e.g. call them about one hour before they're supposed to report to work, when the idea of leaving their cozy home to run around in all that noise is a bit less enticing. Or, I could just show up at the pre-shift meeting and see if anyone wants to go home. The last-ditch scenario (for the truly shift-desparate) is to buy someone's shift off them. (Ah, this works the other way, when demand is high--if you need a night off, and no one will pick up the shift for you, you could pay someone to take it...I have rarely seen that happen at this restaurant, people are too nice). Anyhoo, I'm going to continue to lounge around and hope someone calls me back. Much as I would love to have the night off, I need the moolah.

You need some moolah, huh? The nylon polymer enterprise with Uncle Rico isn't working out so well?
