Exploding Purse Situation Resolved by Creation of Bigger Better Bag
So, these are two of the bags I made this weekend. The big one is mine, the smaller one is for Arica. I also made a tote for Summra, it looks a lot like the tote in the photo but it's made to fit her laptop. Fun times. The "Whiskey Sour 90 Calories" thing is a weird little embroidered hanky I picked up at an estate sale. The sale was $5 a bag so I just threw it in. What does it mean?

OMG, and I realized the hanky is spelled "whisky"... My reputation as a language Nazi is going to be tarnished!
Okay, dictionary.com says "whisky" is an acceptable variant of "whiskey"--I don't know why, but seriously, Phwew.
I'm always searching for anything that says something like "Its nice to know you", just so I can start a collection for you.
Really nice bags. You made 3 this weekend??? Holy smokes. I haven't ever tried a flap--is it one piece folded over like an envelope or a separate piece?
I believe it's called "whisky" from Ireland, "whiskey" from the states, and "scotch" from Scotland.
Or so the conversation went one drunken eve, but I was drinking with pros, so there ya have it.

Hi...i found your blog randomly the other day, love it, and have linked you. :)
By the way, those bags are fabulous!
Welcome Lorn!
Bags are nice, but do you like....comic books?
Also, do you listen to Stuart Davis? He is/was/will be your favorite musician.
Those bags are sweet!! Big props for the many interior special needs pockets. Interior pockets truly separate the wheat from the chaff.
anna,
LOVE THE BAGS!
YOu are so f-ing creative.
Maybe you could sell them at a boutique?
Hullo Shad-
I am rather a fan of...graphic novels. :)
I have not heard of this Stuart Davis character. Perhaps I might could check him out sometime.
Stuart Davis is a folk musician, he rocks, you should check him out. Also, he's a Buddhist, which, I suspect is why Shad made that seemingly random comment? Also, Lorn, it's good to see a Democrat down there in Texas. Keep up the good work.
I'm not a real Texan (more of a California-bred Wisconsinite), but I do the best I can to keep this place from being crushed under the weight of its own hypocrisy.
Julie--to answer your question about the flap: I sewed it as a separate piece, but you wouldn't need to. The tricky thing is to deal with the strap. If you sew it all in one piece, a thick strap sewn to the inside won't work out (it will get bunched up because there's no room for it). What I did to overcome that is cut the flap into a shape that would accomodate the straps when folded over (you can see it's a modified-T-like shape). I think it would be better to sew the flap on separately, making it slightly less wide than the rest of the purse to accomodate the straps.
