Juice Invites Ridicule
OK, go ahead, I know it's hilarious. (But don't be too harsh, please, it is only my first painting after all.)

Mary and mom came down Thursday and left today. Mary and I made a bunch of rings out of buttons and ... buttons. Also, I apparently can't hold the camera still enough to take a non-blurry photo.

And I found this on my camera, which I apparently have not used since November 4, when Shad and I were playing in the leaves.

Anna, I think you've captured the flesh tones very well! Excellent modeling, really. Did you only use black and white, or do I detect a hint of color? The noses look great, they're always a hard feature to capture. Excellent composition, also. With a bit of work on your proportion, I think you could make this a serious hobby! Heck, a career even.
What did you put the buttons on for the rings? Can you buy plain bands? I have TONS of buttons, and spring break is coming up, so I need a project...
Thanks, Sarah! The values are a mix of raw umber, black, & white with a hint of yellow ochre to give it a sepia tone. And a bit of blue and red to temper the yellow.
There are lots of places online that sell the rings--they are just cheap adjustable ones. I can't remember where I bought mine from, but a quick google search would yield lots of options, I suspect, as it did for me.
The only thing that would make that picture better would be pansies. But they are probably hard to find in a photo booth.
I also love the photo of you in the leaves. Can I have a copy please?
Thanks, Your Mama in law
I like your painting a lot - it's lovely.
UJ, you have such nice friends. At least nicer than me...
