Ugly Juice Endorses Hutchinson for Governor
I will be voting for Peter Hutchinson on Tuesday. I've been struggling with this for some time because I don't want to take away votes from the DFL, but Hatch is wonkish, I'm not loving him, and I'm sick of feeling disappointed with the DFL candidates and two-party politicking. So I'm going to stop feeling apologetic about it and I'm going to cast my vote for the candidate whose views not only most closely align with my own, but also who is most likely to fulfill the purpose of a representative democracy.
If you have not done so already, I'd recommend using MPR's Select-a-Candidate tool. (Interestingly, MPR has tallied the numbers of people who have used this tool and their results, and 51% of users have been matched to Peter Hutchinson as their best choice for Governor.)

We need to talk.
if you need to stay on my couch you can... otis is very loving too.
What you mean to say is "Ugly Juice Endorses Pawlenty for Governor". Hope you like another 4 years of Tim Pawlenty, because that's who you are voting for.
ugly juice, i think a lot of people feel the same as you. for example, me. hatch is not much better news for minnesotans than pawlenty. hutchinson, on the other hand, is so right on!!!
I am sick of people saying a vote for Hutchinson is a vote for Pawlnety. It turns out a vote for Hutchinson is a vote for Hutchinson. Pawlenty has done more damage than good over the past four years, I admit. But for me, the only thing Hatch has going for him is he's not Pawlenty. That's a lame reason to vote for someone.
I'd rather vote FOR someone than vote against someone else. If Pawlenty wins, the Hutchinson voters are not to blame. Blame the DFL and Hatch for giving voters like me no reason to vote for him.
BUT HATCH IS REALLY GREAT!
Most of the people I talk to who dislike him say he's wonkish, nasaly, offputting...it's all interpersonal skills stuff.
Hatch and Hutch are neck-in-neck on the kind of policies that they want to put in place. Hatch's Attn General record is AMAZING. He's Nader-level consumer advocate...especially in regards to health care. He's feared.
from someone who works in the health care world, public health to be exact, hatch is very unpopular. he has done a lot of anti-public health things during his tenure as attourney general. he's feared in the public health arena because of his backwards notions about how to promote health.
Hatch has led bold crusades against HMOs and got amazing results. It's not about plans or ideals, the guy has a terrific record in helping medical consumers and those with prescription drug needs. As a sick dude, I don't want a huge political fight over public health care. I want my insurance company to not be able to make me pay for my drugs up front ($1600 month) and take their time to reimburse me. I want to be able to get subsidized drugs from Canada. I want to pay a lower premium if the HMO CEO is making 3 million a year in salary. Those are the kinds of fixable holes that Mike Hatch has been working on and will have the power to continue to fix. Other big fix health care initiatives are uphill battles, especially from an independent candidate.
The other issuse that is of great concern for me is in catagorizing gay people and denying them the same basic civil rights as other couples. History will ALWAYS eventually frown on those who deny rights to their fellow man. Hatch's party is the correct party for this human rights issue. Immigration is a similar human rights issue.
In light of great issues that affects how humanity treats humanity, transporation dollars and taxes mean nothing.
It's with that feeling that it's not just important but justifyable to compromise and agree to vote AGAINST Pawlenty and Bauchman as powerful representatives of the masses. You do this by selecting the candiate with the best chance of defeating them. It's an imperfect solution but will ultimately have the most effective results.
Vote for Hutch...better chance at getting Pawlenty.
We're talking about effective strategy for getting change, not idealism. Voters today should be smart enough to view recent history and KNOW that voting is not without nuance.
