Vacationing Student Gets Crafty

Okay, so last night I reupholstered the footstool. Toby helped. I think it looks groovy. Car thinks she's a princess. She thinks the footstool is her new throne.

Then Toby and I made dinner. We rubbed down some fish with olive oil, garlic, and lemon juice, and grilled it. Then we whipped out my new broiler pan and baked sugar snap peas with olive oil, shallots, and thyme. We made some rice and homemade guacamole, too. But the best part was the poached pears we made for dessert. They were pretty fussy and took almost two hours to perfect. We served them over a red wine reduction and spun carmelized sugar around them.

That footstool looks a million times better with Car on it...and recovered. She is such a pretty little girl. Looking at the picture closely, I kind of sense that she is just really getting ready to tear your creation to shreds when you turn your back and use it as a non-human scratching post.
Those pears are out of control fancee. Did you wear one of your scaves while preparing that dish?

I can't believe you got Toby to touch raw fish. He wouldn't even look at raw meat when he was home. The pears are beautiful. I sent you a bunch of cookbooks in the shipment of Toby's stuff. I also packed a bunch of games and puzzles. Since I read about the space crisis in the previous post, I feel as if I should send an extra room too. Ummmm, there is a 1,000 pounds of stuff in the shipment. I hope it fits in your house, love ME

Ah, yes, Debi. Good call. I did the fish by myself while Toby stood as far away as he could working on the sugar snap peas. I thought I'd go ahead and give him credit for helping with the whole meal. You sent me cookbooks???!!!! That's SO AWESOME!!!!

Oh, and yes, LA, of course I wore a scarf while preparing the pears. Otherwise they wouldn't have turned out quite so lovely. I couldn't get Toby to wear a scarf, though. He'll learn.
